Mission

The greatest threat to living a long, independent and fulfilling life is no longer simply ageing—it is the steady progression of preventable degenerative disease.

Heart disease, cancer, diabetes, dementia and other chronic conditions affect millions of families every year. Yet for many people, these illnesses develop silently over decades, long before symptoms appear.

I believe there is a better way. Rather than waiting for illness to dictate the course of your life, I work proactively to optimise your health through evidence-based exercise, nutrition, lifestyle medicine and behaviour change. My aim is simple: to help you maintain your strength, vitality, independence and quality of life for as long as possible, regardless of your age or current health.

Whether you are seeking to prevent disease, manage a recent diagnosis or continue living well with a complex medical condition, every programme is individually designed using the latest clinical research and delivered with the precision of a Clinical Exercise Physiologist.

I believe exceptional healthcare should not simply extend life—it should preserve the ability to enjoy it.

More than personal healthcare

HosteHealth exists for more than today’s clients. Alongside my clinical work, I am undertaking doctoral research at the University of East London to investigate how clinically supervised exercise can transform outcomes for older adults living with hypertension and other long-term conditions.

Every client who chooses HosteHealth becomes part of a wider mission: helping shape the future of preventative healthcare and improving the lives of thousands of people in the years ahead. For those who share this vision, there is also an opportunity to support this research through charitable donation, helping accelerate evidence that could influence NHS care for future generations.

Prevention not just rehabilitation

Exercise is not simply about fitness. It is one of the most effective interventions available for preserving cardiovascular health, reducing frailty, improving cognitive function, supporting cancer recovery, enhancing mental wellbeing and maintaining independence throughout later life. My mission is to help you live longer, move better, think clearer and perform at your very best—using interventions grounded in science, delivered with compassion and tailored exclusively to you. Your health is your greatest asset. Investing in it today will shape your tomorrow.

Clinical Expertise

When your health becomes your most valuable asset, experience matters.

For more than 20 years, Richard has worked at the intersection of clinical science, exercise physiology and human performance, helping people improve their health, recover from illness and continue living active, independent lives.

Richard is a Clinical Exercise Physiologist, Chartered Scientist in Human Physiology registered with the Science Council and a Sport & Exercise Scientist accredited by the Chartered Association of Sport & Exercise Sciences — professional registrations that recognise advanced scientific knowledge, extensive clinical experience and an ongoing commitment to the highest professional standards.

His work combines the precision of healthcare with the practicality of lifestyle medicine.

Richard has spent much of his career working with adults living with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, cancer, frailty and other long-term conditions, designing safe, personalised programmes that improve strength, mobility, confidence and quality of life.

Alongside his private clinical practice, Richard completed specialist cardiovascular rehabilitation training through The Hatter Institute at University College London, supporting patients before and after cardiac procedures with individually supervised rehabilitation.

His expertise extends beyond clinical practice. Richard has taught physiology, nutrition, rehabilitation and advanced physiological assessment to undergraduate and postgraduate students from some of the UK’s leading universities, including Bath, Leeds, Loughborough, Surrey and St Mary’s University.

Today, Richard is undertaking doctoral research at the University of East London, investigating how clinically supervised exercise can improve outcomes for older adults with hypertension while reducing health inequalities and informing future NHS practice.

His ambition is simple: not only to help individual clients transform their own health, but to help redefine how preventative healthcare is delivered across England.

Why Clients Choose HosteHealth

Clients work with Richard because they are looking for more than exercise.

They want expert guidance grounded in science, someone who understands complex medical conditions as well as human performance. They want a clinician who takes time to understand their goals, collaborates with their medical team where appropriate, and delivers a highly personalised programme that fits seamlessly into their lifestyle.

Whether your goal is to reduce cardiovascular risk, remain independent despite a neurological condition, recover after surgery, improve longevity or simply continue performing at your best, every recommendation is evidence-based, measurable and designed specifically for you.

Richard’s passion for performance extends well beyond healthcare. Having competed and coached in both rugby and cricket for many years, he understands first-hand the disciplines required to build strength, resilience and long-term health. He has played and coached at Rosslyn Park RFC, is an RFU Level 2 Coach and Referee, an ECB Level 2 Cricket Coach, and played competitive Surrey Championship cricket for more than two decades.

That same philosophy now underpins every HosteHealth programme: helping clients perform at their highest level — not simply in sport, but in everyday life.

Retired School Teacher

“When I was diagnosed with osteoporosis, I feared that getting older meant accepting a future of weaker bones, reduced confidence and increasing limitations. Meeting Richard changed that completely. He took the time to understand not only my diagnosis but also my goals, my lifestyle and what mattered most to me. Every programme was carefully tailored, scientifically explained and adjusted as I became stronger. Three years later, my bone density has improved to the point that I no longer meet the diagnostic criteria for osteoporosis. I am stronger, more active and more confident than I ever imagined possible. I now enjoy long walks, travel and time with my grandchildren without constantly worrying about falls or fractures. Richard’s knowledge is exceptional, but it is his genuine care, encouragement and belief in his clients that truly sets him apart. Working with Hoste Health has been one of the best investments I have ever made”
